The Cold of Aggieland

Here's the things that people say to you when you apply to and consider going to Texas A&M:
"It's a wonderful school!"
"Great programs!"
"Its relatively close to home." (that was my mom)
"You get to be a part of something greater than yourself."
"You'll make some of the most incredible memories in your life."
and "There are so many things to get involved in."
Not one of the wonderful people I discussed coming to college here mentioned College Station's tendency towards insane weather. And i don't mean the kind of insane like "My friend is so crazy." No this weather is along the lines of "We the jury find..." crazy. On Sunday our high was around 80 degrees. Monday it was 64. Tuesday it was 27. Yesterday it was 28. And today the high was a whopping 31 degrees. On top of a wind that feels generally angry with you. So things are very cold, for Texas anyway. Thankfully the cold weather does nothing to diminish the Aggie Spirit. Silver Taps is of course on of the more somber events on campus and always takes place at night, around 10:30 to be exact. During Silver Taps the wind was blowing pretty fierce dropping the already low temperatures even farther below freezing. Several Aggies showed up (though not as much would normally arrive) and braved the temperatures to show their support for the families of the fallen. Also in this miserable weather many people still take the time out to give me a push to class (for those who didn't know I am in a wheelchair), sacrificing their time, and body temperatures to help me get to class safely.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though the cold caught me off-guard and is miserable, I'm glad that I'm still here because of the wonderful Aggie Spirit that fills everyone of us at this university.

12th Man Etiquette

I'm sorry to make my second post one thats a little bit on the heated side, but I just have to get this out. If you're at an Aggie game and you are not a member of the opposing team, you should not be bad mouthing your team. The guys sitting behind me at tonight's t.u. game did just that. Now even I make comments in jest like "Put Tannehill in" or something along those lines, but nothing like these guys were saying. I heard "maybe we should just throw in the towel," or "I don't know why we put this guy in, he sucks at basketball. Every little break in the action where people could hear them, they'd say something. First it started out where I would make snappy little remarks after what they said, but by the last 7 minutes of the game I was getting sick and tired of their two percenter attitude. So when they said "What are they reviewing now?" during a time out I snapped and yelled back, "To see if its possible for you to shut the hell up!" not my proudest moment but you know these things happen.

Long Story Short, please be a good sport no matter how we're losing, because that's just how things are here.

Thanks and Gig 'Em

Blogging Noob

Well... if you're reading this welcome to my blog. I suppose a "Howdy" is in order. HOWDY!!! That's just how we do things here in Aggieland. I'm gonna try and do my best to make this thing entertaining as best I can. I'd probably try and start doing that now but... I'm not going to fool myself there is absolutely NO ONE reading this, why bother.
